SERVPRO of East Cobb Has the Right Tool For the Job

3/18/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO is here to help If your home needs deep cleaning, call SERVPRO of East Cobb. We offer proactive cleanings for both residential and commercial properties!

Construction workers and skilled trade workers know that having the right tool for the job is crucial to getting the job done right the first time safely and effectively. Could you imagine a carpenter trying to build a house without a hammer or a saw? How about a mechanic repairing a vehicle without wrenches? The same logic can be applied to restoration technicians. Without the proper tools and equipment restoring a home or business to preloss condition is near impossible.

SERVPRO of East Cobb utilizes some of the latest and greatest tools and equipment on the market. Equipping our technicians with the right tools and equipment is only part of SERVPRO’s winning formula. Training and experience also play a major role in the success of a restoration project. This is why our technicians and drying specialists are some of the most well trained, certified, and most importantly experienced professionals around. In our industry disaster can strike at a moment's notice. Having enough and the right type of equipment on hand is key to a fast response time, and when you’re dealing with water or fire damage, a speedy response can be the difference in a small water cleanup and a major restoration project.

SERVPRO is known nationwide for being the industry leader in the residential and commercial restoration industry, but did you know SERVPRO of East Cobb also offers residential and commercial cleanings as well? That’s right the same company that you have trusted for years to mitigate and restore your home or business after a water or fire loss, also offers deep cleaning and proactive cleanings for homes and businesses.

What is a deep cleaning?

When SERVPRO of East Cobb is called out to a home or business for deep cleaning services, our customer usually has experienced an event that calls for a more comprehensive cleaning than a maid service or janitorial staff can provide. There could be biological factors or environmental restrictions like hazardous materials or other types of contaminants present that require specialized equipment and training to clean. After a fire SERVPRO technicians will use specialized dry-chem sponges to heavily clean and remove smoke and soot damage from walls and ceilings. HVAC systems can be deep cleaned using SERVPRO’s specialized duct cleaning systems that will remove built up dust and debris from customer's ductwork. Carpets can be cleaned, sanitized, and restored using SERVPRO’s proprietary professional cleaning and restoration products and equipment during a deep cleaning. Deep cleaning services are far more in depth and substantially more thorough than your typical cleaning service.

What is a proactive cleaning?

Proactive cleanings are great for homes and businesses that want to minimize their exposure to viruses and bacteria. Proactive cleaning procedures consist of cleaning and disinfecting the structure of the facility along with high traffic areas and surfaces. High traffic areas are areas that many people pass through or congregate in like a conference room or lobby. High traffic surfaces are surfaces that people often come in contact with like handrails, door knobs, or water fountains. Both high traffic areas and surfaces are havens for bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. With SERVPRO’s proactive cleaning service home and business owners can minimize their exposure to these types of threats.

Let's take a look at some of the equipment SERVPRO of East Cobb commonly uses to complete both of these types of cleaning procedures.

Foggers, Sprayers, Misters, and Ozone Generators

Foggers, sprayer and misters are all trade names for different types of cleaning equipment utilized to distribute professional grade cleaning and restoration products. Foggers create thick fog that can be used in any number of applications like coating, sealing, and sanitizing building materials. Sprayers are also very versatile pieces of equipment that can be used to evenly coat building materials with cleaning and sanitizing products during the restoration and/or cleaning process. Misters can be very similar to sprayers but differ themselves by dispensing cleaning and sanitizing products at a far smaller particle size. This creates a fine mist that is capable of covering hard to reach or inaccessible nooks and crannies of a building’s structure. Ozone Generators are different from foggers, sprayers, and misters because they are typically used to clean and disinfect air instead of surfaces. You will find ozone generators in hotels, casinos, and other commercial buildings where large numbers of people congregate.

Electric and Pump Sprayers - Pump sprayers are not all that different from the lawn sprayers you could find at Home Depot or Lowes, and are great for spraying cleaning solutions on carpet or treating a large area with antimicrobial products to prevent mold growth. Electric sprayers utilize an electric pump instead of a manual pumping system in traditional pump sprayers. This allows electric sprayers to produce a more consistent spray pattern or rate of dispersion and allow them to cover large areas very quickly.

*SERVPRO utilized several different types of pump and electric sprayers, here are a few of our preferred units: B&G Equipment One Gallon Pump-up Sprayer, Hudson Two-Gallon Pump-up Sprayer, Chapin Wide Mouth Pump-up Sprayer, Multi-Sprayer Electric Sprayer

Macromist ULV Mister - Ultra-low volume (ULV) misters or macromisters compress liquid cleaning and sanitizing products like SERVPROXIDE or Benefect through a specially designed nozzle which produces a fine cold mist or aerosol. These types of misters produce extremely small droplets ranging in size from 1-150 micrometers and have a wide variety of restoration applications including disinfecting surfaces along with mold and odor control. Typically air tight containment is set up around the area to be treated, where technicians, donning personal protective equipment (PPE) like respirators, gloves, eye protection, and tyvek suits, liberally mists the entire area to encapsulate unwanted odors and/or sanitize surfaces.

*SERVPRO of East Cobb go to ULV mister is the B&G Flex-A-Lite 2600 ULV Sprayer/Mister

Thermal Fogger - Thermal foggers are very similar to mister in that they produce very fine aerosolized particles. They differ from them in the way they produce fog and the size of the particles they produce. Thermal foggers produce particles one micrometer or smaller and utilize heat to vaporize fogging solutions. When thermal fogging an area, air tight containment is erected around the area to be treated. Then a technician wearing the aforementioned PPE will liberally fog the entire area to sanitize surfaces and/or encapsulate unwanted odors.

*SERVPRO of East Cobb uses several different thermal-fogging systems, here are few of our favorite: Curtis Dyna-Fog Electric Thermo-Fogger, Legend Brand Electro-Gen Fogger, B&G Trailblazer 2600

Ozone Generator - Ozone generators do exactly what the name infers, they create ozone. Ozone is created by splitting oxygen into two solitary atoms. Each oxygen atom then attaches itself to a whole oxygen molecule to create an ozone molecule. Splitting of these molecules can be accomplished in two ways, Corona discharge which uses electrical discharge to split atoms and ultraviolet (UV) radiation which uses UV light to split oxygen molecules. On a molecular level ozone is very unstable meaning that its molecular bonds break down very easily and quickly (typically about 20 minutes). When ozone molecules come in contact with odors and/or bacterial molecules they bond with them, then break down destroying the odor and/or bacterials.

*SERVPRO of East Cobb uses several different ozone generators like: International Ozone Generator, Rainbow Air Ozone Machine, US Products Ozone Generator

SERVPRO professionals are trained in adhering to the highest cleaning and sanitation standards!

SERVPRO franchise professionals offer cleaning services including the removal of biohazard contaminants. They have the specialized training and products to get your property back to business.

About Coronavirus - The CDC is responding to an outbreak of a respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and has spread to 60 locations internationally (as of this publication), including cases in the United States. The virus known as “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”) is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person or through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

Scope of Cleanup Protocol - SERVPRO professionals can perform a proactive cleanup that involves facility or structure cleaning and disinfection where the customer states that there is no active known threat of COVID-19 contamination or exposure. The customer will be required to acknowledge that cleaning and disinfecting will only apply to the current state of the structure and contents. The structure would not be protected from future COVID-19 contamination if an infected person was to enter and occupy the building.

Cleanup Scope of Work and Planning - The CDC encourages cleaning of high-touch surfaces such as counters, tabletops, doorknobs, light switches, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets, and tables at a minimum. These same surfaces are mentioned in the CDC’s guidelines for commercial spaces as well, including:

  • Kitchen/Food Areas • Bathrooms • Schools/Classrooms • Offices • Retail Spaces • Water Fountains • Shelving and Racks • Sales Counters • Carpets and rugs • Stair Handrails • Elevator Cars • Playground Equipment • Fitness Equipment

Cleanup and Disinfecting Procedures - Cleanup procedures generally include cleaning of porous and non-porous surfaces, disinfecting of non-porous surfaces, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment, tools, and/or supplies used for the cleanup process, and disposal of waste.

The CDC recommends usage of a labeled hospital-grade disinfectant with claims against similar type organisms to COVID-19. SERVPROXIDE, SERVPRO’s proprietary disinfectant, is a hospital-grade disinfectant that has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to SARS-CoV-2 on hard, non-porous surfaces. In addition, SERVPROXIDE currently has dozens of EPA-approved claims including Feline coronavirus, Canine coronavirus, Staphylococcus (MRSA), E. coli, Salmonella, Rotavirus, Swine flu (H1N1) and more.

Porous surfaces that are not water-sensitive, such as carpet and other fabric material, cannot be disinfected but can be sanitized using SERVPROXIDE.

SERVPRO of East Cobb's Specialized Drying Equipment

3/12/2020 (Permalink)

servpro cleaning technician When disaster strikes, call in the pros that know how to get the job done right the first time!

SERVPRO of East Cobb has been in the restoration industry for nearly two decades, in the age of “fly by the night” restoration companies this is no easy feat. The restoration industry can be a tough business to make customers happy. They are typically in a pretty poor mood when they call us, which is to be expected. Often times they have quite a mess on their hands. From water in the basement or crawlspace to discovering mold in the attic, even experiencing a kitchen or other type of house fire. Their home has been significantly damaged. That in itself can put even the most cheerful homeowners in a bad mood. Let SERVPRO of East Cobb ease your worries and stress. We can be on-site in less than an hour in most cases and are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, even during major holidays.

One of the reasons SERVPRO of East Cobb has been so successful in the restoration industry is our resolve in using only the best professional/commercial grade equipment available on the market and our commitment to training our restoration technicians . Our firm as a whole, as well as our individual technicians, are IICRC certified and under-go rigorous ongoing training programs provided to us by SERVPRO’s corporate headquarters in Gallatin, TN. With over 1,700 franchises nationwide, you are guaranteed to have a SERVPRO franchise nearby that is ready to come to the rescue at a moment's notice. SERVPRO’s franchise system has built a network of knowledge and experience unmatched in the restoration industry, and affords every SERVPRO nationwide the assets necessary to take on any size disaster. SERVPRO of East Cobb is your local Cobb County and greater metro Atlanta area residential and commercial restoration service provider.

If you’ve ever experienced a water loss in your home or business you are probably pretty familiar with some of the equipment SERVPRO of East Cobb utilizes on our customer’s restoration projects. Air movers and dehumidifiers are used on almost every water restoration project SERVPRO handles, and they work great for most drying situations. Sometimes materials or environment dictate the need for even more specialized drying equipment. Let's take a little bit closer look at some of these specialty drying machines.

Specialized Drying Systems

When we talk about specialized drying equipment, we are talking about equipment that is not readily available to the general public or requires specialized training to operate safely and successfully. Customers often refer to our air moving equipment as “fans”. Fans are sold at your local big box store like Wal-mart and are great for keeping you cool during a hot afternoon, but are not designed to dry building materials or the structure of your home. Fans do not move the volume of air, commercial air movers move and lack the ability to be dirctionalized air flow to facilitate an ideal drying environment. The same can be said about the dehumidifiers SERVPRO of East Cobb utilizes. SERVPRO’s dehumidifiers are substantially different from the residential or home-use products people often use to remedy a cold or to alleviate asthma symptoms. Residential dehumidifiers are often conventional type dehumidifiers and are not capable of the same drying output or cubic feet per minute (CFM) of moving air, as SERVPRO’s low-grain refrigerant (LGR) dehumidifiers. Your average home use dehumidifier is capable of far fewer CFM’s than commercial grade dehumidifiers and often many lack the proper filtration capabilities to remove air impurities often found on water restoration job sites.

SERVPRO of East Cobb’s highly trained water restoration specialists have intimate knowledge of how each piece of drying equipment works and each piece’s specialized and intended purposes. Having the right tool for the job will only get you so far. Without proper training and an in depth knowledge of the drying process the drying equipment can cause more harm than good and can result in costly mistakes and repairs.

Wall and Floor Mat Drying Systems - Wall and floor mat drying systems are industrial pieces of drying equipment that have specialized purposes. As you could probably glean from their names, they are specifically designed to dry walls and floors. There are many different types of wall and floor mat drying systems, but most operate off of similar designs. They typically have a centralized dehumidification or a heating pump unit that provides dehumidified/warm air to a series of mats or panels that are taped to the surface of the material being dried. The mats or panels force warm dry air over the surface of walls and/or flooring quickly and safely removing moisture from the building materials. *SERVPRO of East Cobb utilizes several different models of wall and floor drying systems, here are a few of our go to pieces: HP Plus Complete System, Injectidry HP-60 Drying System w/ floor drying panels, HP Plus Floor Drying Package, HP Plus Wall and Ceiling Drying Package

Carpet Cleaning and Water Extraction Systems

Carpet cleanings are a big part of the restoration industry, and are probably one of the more common reasons customers call SERVPRO of East Cobb. Extraction power, heating capabilities, and operator training are the three main metrics that separate SERVPRO’s commercial carpet cleaning equipment/services from residential carpet cleaning equipment or rental carpet cleaning equipment. Residential or rental carpet cleaning equipment are not capable of the same heating and extraction/vacuum power as SERVPRO professional grade equipment, and unless you have a former carrier in carpet cleaning industry you probably lack the knowledge base and experience to avoid all of the possible pit-fall that come alone with rental carpet cleaning systems and DIY projects.

When a customer calls SERVPRO of East Cobb with several inches of water in their home or business, it’s time to bring out the big guns. SERVPRO has a plethora of water extraction tools at our disposal. From truck mounted vacuum extractors capable of moving hundreds of gallons of water an hours to powerful portable extraction units that can reach remote and hard to reach areas. We also have several different models of high-flow rate water pumps and sump-pumps, that are great at moving dirty water or liquids that contain solid waist.  When it comes to water removal/extraction and carpet cleaning, SERVPRO of East Cobb has you covered!

Portable Carpet Cleaning Systems - Portable carpet cleaning systems are great for reaching hard to reach areas in your home or business. They are typically a little bit smaller than a shopping cart that you would find at a grocery store. Restoration and drying specialists will use these types of systems to clean and restore carpet, window treatments, and upholstery. Our technicians have been certified by the IICRC and participate in our continued education training program, where they receive additional hands on training with the equipment they will use to restore our customers property. SERVPRO of East Cobb knows that a tool is only as effective as the technician operating it. This is why SERVPRO of East Cobb fields some of the highly trained technicians in the state. *SERVPRO of East Cobb utilizes several different models of portable carpet cleaning systems, here are a few of our go to pieces:US Products PEX 500, US Products King Cobra 1200/500, US Products Solus 500, US Products HP Plus, US Products Hydraport 400, Kleenrite Edge 500 w/ auto discharge

Truck Mounted Carpet Cleaning and Water Extraction Systems - Truck mounted water extraction systems are high powered vacuum systems that are capable of extracting hundreds of gallons of water per hour. SERVPRO of East Cobb fields several different types of truck mounted water extraction and carpet cleaning systems that afford our technicians extraordinary extraction and cleaning capabilities. Our truck mounted carpet cleaning systems utilize SERVPRO’s proprietary commercial restoration and cleaning products to clean and restore carpets and upholstery to preloss condition. When choosing a restoration company to mitigate and restore your property, it is important to do some research and find a company you feel good about and have confidence in. One of the best ways you can research restoration companies is to visit reputable online review platforms like the Better Business Bureau (BBB), HomeAdvisor, or Yelp. You can even try visiting the company's Facebook page, check out how many Google Reviews they have, or even simply browse their website for before and after pictures of the work they have completed. Review platforms often award badges or an accreditation to companies with great customer service. For example, the BBB website rates business based on customer experiences and identifies stellar companies with a “BBB Accredited Business” badge. Google has special ad placements for companies that are “Google Verified” and even offer customers financial guarantees and warranties on the work completed by the company that placed the Google Verified Ad. In case you were wondering, SERVPRO of East Cobb is both a Googles Verified Ads service provider, and an A+ Rated Accredited Business

National Influenza Vaccination Week: December 1-7, 2019

Starting in 2005, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) established the National Influenza Vaccination Week to highlight the importance of continuing flu vaccination throughout the holiday season and beyond.

During the 2017-2018 flu season, the CDC estimates the flu caused 49 million flu-related illnesses (more than the combined populations of Texas and Florida), 960,000 flu hospitalizations (more than the number of staffed hospital beds in the United States), and 79,000 deaths (more than the average number of people who attend the Super Bowl each year).

If you’ve already gotten the flu this season, you should still get vaccinated to protect yourself against other strands of the flu. People with a high risk of complications from the flu include young children, pregnant women, people with certain chronic health conditions, and people over the age of 65. Get a flu shot today to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Tips For The Home

You can winterize your home by installing insulation and weather stripping in areas that have gaps where cold air can infiltrate your home. You can also insulate water lines installed in exterior or exposed walls to help prevent pipe freezes. Having a working and well maintained heating system, whether it is gas or electric is very important. You should have your heating system serviced professionally once a year, and check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors monthly for charged batteries and are in good working order. Having a backup source of heat that can operate on alternative fuels is also a good.

Tips For The Car

The CDC has a few simple tips to prepare your vehicle for winter weather. Make sure your vehicle is in good working order and has a full tank of fuel. This will help prevent fuel lines from freezing and keep ice from forming in the tank. Use cold weather windshield washer fluid and radiator fluid to prevent your vehicle’s systems from freezing. Always carry an emergency kit in the vehicle with blankets, cell phone charger or extra batteries, flashlight, first-aid kit, and some food and water.

Going on vacation should be relaxing and worry-free, which is why it is important to make sure your house is secure before you leave for your trip. Be SERVPRO ready so you don’t come back to damages in your home. Here are some tips for preparing your home provided by SERVPRO of East Cobb.

Make Arrangements with an Emergency Contact.

  • Choose a close friend or neighbor you trust as your emergency contact and provide them with all of your itinerary information in case they need to contact you.
  • A timer on the lights will give the impression that someone is home.
  • Leave written directions for alarm codes, doors, or other information needed to properly care for your home.
  • Make sure your mail is collected; burglars often look for homes with overflowing mail.
  • The Post office can suspend your mail and deliver the day you get back. Here is a link to the US Post Office.

Take plumbing and electric precautions.

  • Prevent leaks and floods from damaging your home by shutting off gas and water at the meter, supply tank, or appliances.
  • Turn off the water valves to washing machines, sinks, and the dishwasher.
  • Unplug electronics to cut down on any possible shortages which could potentially cause a disastrous fire.
  • Check your smoke detectors to ensure they are working properly.
  • Adjust your thermostat for the season. Keeping your thermostat at 55-60 degrees in the winter and 75-80 degrees in the summer should help control usage.

 Right before you leave:

  • Notify your security company that you are leaving town.
  • Take out the kitchen trash and other trash that could get smelly.
  • Go on one last walk through of your house to secure windows, blinds, fences, doors, and plugs. This will ensure all entries are safe from hazardous obstructions.

Did you know cooking equipment is the leading cause of residential fires? As the holiday season begins and you find yourself in the kitchen more often while hosting friends and family, fire precautions should be top of mind. One of the most popular holiday season dishes is deep fried turkey. While it can produce some of the most delicious turkeys known to man, it also come along with some dire consequences if safety is ignored. Check out the video link below to see what can happen when safety is ignored when deep frying your holiday turkey.

5 Dangers of Deep Frying a Turkey

  • Turkey fryers can easily tip over, spilling hot cooking oil over a large area or surface.
  • An over-filled cooking pot can cause cooking oil to spill or spatter when the turkey is placed in the pot.
  • Even a small amount of cooking oil spilling on a hot burner can cause a large fire.
  • Without thermostat controls, deep fryers can overheat cooking oil to the point of igniting a fire.
  • The sides of the cooking pot, lid, and pot handles can get dangerously hot.

Thanksgiving Cooking Safety Tips From Your Friends at SERVPRO of East Cobb

11/5/2019 (Permalink)

holiday baking recipe for disaster SERVPRO of East Cobb is open 24/7 even during the holidays. We can be at your door in less than an hour in most cases!

Each November, families gather to celebrate Thanksgiving by preparing a delicious feast, but if you don’t practice safe cooking habits, your happy holiday could quickly become hazardous in a blink of an eye. According to the The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), cooking is the main cause of home fires and injuries, with the Thanksgiving holiday being the peak day for cooking-related fire emergencies. Review the following safety tips to help ensure you can enjoy a safe holiday.

  • Never Leave cooking food unattended. Stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling, or broiling food. If someone must leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, they should turn off the stove.
  • Check food regularly while cooking and remain in the home while kitchen equipment is in use. Use a timer as a reminder that the stove or oven is on.
  • Keep small children away from the cooking area. Enforce a “kid-free zone” and make them stay at least three feet away from the stove and oven.
  • Keep anything flammable like pot holders, oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper or plastic bags, food packaging, and towels away from the stove, oven, or other appliances in the kitchen that generates heat.
  • Do not wear loose clothing or dangling sleeves while cooking.
  • Clean cooking surfaces on a regular basis to prevent grease build-up.
  • Purchase a fire extinguisher to keep in the kitchen year round. Contact the local fire department for training on the proper use of fire extinguishers if you are unsure.
  • Always check the kitchen before going to bed or leaving the home to make sure all kitchen appliances like stoves, ovens, and toasters are turned off.
  • Install a smoke alarm near the kitchen, on each level of the home, near sleeping areas, and inside and outside of bedrooms. Use the test button to check it is working properly every month. Replace the batteries at least once a year.

Choosing the Appropriate Fire Extinguisher

  • Class A: This is the most common extinguisher and can be used to put out fires in ordinary combustibles such as cloth, wood, rubber, paper, and many plastics.
  • Class B: Used on fires involving flammable liquids, such as grease, gasoline, and oil.
  • Class C: Designed for fires involving appliances, tools, or other equipment electronically energized or plugged in.
  • Class D: For use on flammable metals; often specific for the type of metal in question. These are typically found in factories.
  • Class K: Intended for use on fires that involve vegetable oil, animal oils, or fats in cooking appliances. Generally found in commercial kitchens.

SERVPRO of East Cobb wishes you a safe and happy Thanksgiving and holiday season.

Winter Weather Worries

1/24/2019 (Permalink)

Keep an eye out for snow build-up on roofs!

Winter weather can bring about more issues than just slippery roads and a sidewalk to shovel. If you live where temperatures sink below freezing level, you are also at risk for frozen pipes and ice dams, which can create a major disaster at your home or property.

Frozen Pipes

Frozen pipes are often those exposed to the cold weather, such as those outside your home, or in cold areas such as basements, attics, garages or kitchen cabinets.

A frozen pipe can burst at the point where the ice blockage inside the pipe is located, but typically the rupture is caused by the backflow pressure between the water source and the blockage. A burst pipe can cause considerable damage to your property if not addressed quickly.

To prevent pipes from freezing, here are a few steps you can take, according to The American Red Cross:

  • Be sure to completely drain water from swimming pool and sprinkler lines as well as outside hoses.
  • Open kitchen cabinets to let warm air circulate near the plumbing.
  • When the weather is extremely cold, let water drip from faucets that may come from exposed pipes.
  • Keep your heat set to the same temperature both day and night.

Ice Dams

Ice dams can be a little-known, but major problem during the snowy season. They form when heated air melts roof snow downward into water dammed behind still-frozen ice. When the trapped water cannot safely flow gutter system, it can backflow under the roof's shingles and into the structure's interior areas, as well as causing gutters and shingles to move or fall.

Removing an ice dam as soon a it is found is vital to helping prevent damage to your property and can be done using heated cables , a roof shovel, or calcium chloride ice melter.

If winter weather causes water damage to you or your insured's property, SERVPRO of  East cobb are only a call away, 24/7, ready to restore to preloss condition.

Seven Holiday Safety Tips

11/29/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of East Cobb can make your fire damage, "Like it never even happened."

Beautiful holiday decorations like lights, candles, and lawn displays are just a few of the things that make the holiday season seem to come alive with charm and cheer. However, if they are not used carefully and well maintained your holidays could go from festive to frightening in no time at all.

The American Red Cross offers the following safety tips to help greatly reduce the fire risk in your home or business this holiday season.

  1. Place Christmas trees, candles and other holiday decorations at least three feet away from heat sources like fireplaces, portable heater, radiators, heat vents, and candles.
  2. Make sure light strings and other holiday decorations are in good condition. Do not use anything with frayed electrical cords and always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Always unplug tree and holiday lights before leaving the property or going to bed.
  4. Never use lit candles to decorate a tree. Always extinguish candles before leaving the room or going to bed.
  5. Use only sturdy tree stands designed not to tip over. Keep curious pets and children away from Christmas trees.
  6. Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stove top (pot holders, oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper or plastic bags, food packaging, and towels or curtains).
  7. Designate one person to walk around your property to ensure all candles and smoking materials are properly extinguished after guests leave.

We here at SERVPRO of East Cobb would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday season!
