Help Prevent Fire In Your Kennesaw GA Home

10/17/2018 (Permalink)

House fires affect millions of people every year at the cost of over $500 Million. Smoke detectors have proved their value every year, saving lives and homes from total loss. Most house fires start in the kitchen, but a significant number still occur in a place most forget about once the item is installed, the dryer vent.

A dryer vent cleaning cost may seem like an avoidable charge, but it is needed to prevent fire in your Kennesaw home. There are over 15,000 dryer fires each year, and the accumulated property damage cost exceeds $70 Million annually. SERVPRO has the personnel and equipment needed to keep you from adding to those numbers in the coming year. This vent cleaning can also reduce the workload of your clothes dryer while lowering energy usage.

A dryer inside the house or apartment uses a metal exhaust pipe (galvanized iron or steel usually) to vent hot air to the outside of the home. The zinc-coated material is designed to handle the highest dryer setting and more, but not open flames from burning, built-up lint. Since this is an exhaust pipe and smoke seeks the easiest access, a vent fire goes undetected by the smoke detectors much longer than a fire anywhere else in the house.

If your dryer is in the garage or under a carport, the chance for a major fire is reduced, but not eliminated. The flexible vent tube may not run under the house, but it is still at risk. The buildup of lint can still ignite, destroying your dryer and the washer next to it. As the flexible, plastic pipe melts, the burning material quickly ignites drywall and other building material. Worse, there is the possible loss of a car, boat, ATV or RV that might be parked next to the dryer as well.

Our SERVPRO technicians can eliminate this threat with an inspection. We can attach an air mover which introduces high-velocity air flow into your vent for just a few minutes. If the build-up has caked against the sides of the pipe, they use a brush with a telescoping handle to scrape the sides and then reattach the air mover to blow the lint outside your home. For a flexible conduit, we detach it from the dryer and clean it outside using either an air mover or your own garden hose to wash it out.

The cost for vent cleaning is minor compared to other restoration and cleaning work. It is significantly cheaper than removing fire damaged drywall and cleaning smoke and soot covered property. If you need our services or would like an inspection...

Are Your Ducts In A Row?

10/17/2018 (Permalink)

Did you know, your ventilation system is often the biggest culprit in poor indoor air quality? Inspecting the duct work in your facility or home should be a high priority. In most cases, the HVAC system has been operating for some time without much attention. Dirty ducts can circulate odors, contaminants such as mold, and irritating dust throughout your building or home.

A routine part of SERVPRO of East Cobb service is inspecting the heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit (HVAC). Keeping the HVAC and duct work clean can potentially extend the life span of the equipment by allowing it to operate at peak condition, which may help save you money. Duct cleaning may not always be necessary. SERVPRO of East Cobb will inspect your HVAC system and duct work and make recommendations about the best way to address any indoor air quality concerns. This inspection can help save you money and provide peace of mind on the health of your HVAC system and duct work.

In some circumstances, such as after fire, smoke or  suspected mold growth, duct cleaning becomes an essential part of the cleanup process. In these cases, SERVPRO of East Cobb can often restore the HVAC system and duct work to pre-damage condition.

If you have a fuel burning furnace, stove or fireplace, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends they be inspected for proper functioning, and be serviced before each heating season to protect against carbon monoxide poisoning.

The SERVPRO Duct Cleaning System is proven and cost efficient. Unlike the majority of duct cleaning services, SERVPRO of East Cobb uses a portable ventilation and air duct cleaning system to examine duct work fan make a clean sweep, removing years of dust and grime.

  • The process begins by using patented equipment including a roto-scraper, which automatically adapts to the ducts shape and diameter while traveling through the duct, removing debris and filth before vacuuming begins.
  • Next, a powerful push-pull air delivery and collection system transfers the debris from the ducting to a 16-gallon container.
  • Air is filtered through a HEPA filtration system, removing 99.97% of the particles in the air stream. HEPA filters capture debris and keep the indoor environment clean.
  • As an optional process, a sealant or coating products may be sprayed to address odor or microbial concerns.
  • Filters will either be cleaned or replaced to remove odor and dirt.

The Key To Controlling Mold Growth

10/8/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation The Key To Controlling Mold Growth Dustin and Sunny using HEPA vacuums on a mold removal project.

When water leaks or spills occur indoors clean them up quickly as possible. If wet or damp materials or areas are dried 24-48 hours after a leak or spill happens, in most cases mold will not grow.

Call the Professional Mold Removal Team - SERVPRO of East Cobb (770) 424-0400

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has provided us with the following tips on controlling mold growth:

  • Clean and repair roof gutters regularly.
  • Make sure the ground slopes away from the building foundation, so that water does not enter or collect around the foundation.
  • Keep air conditioning drip pans clean and the drain lines unobstructed and flowing properly.
  • Keep indoor humidity low. If possible, keep indoor
humidity below 60 percent (ideally between 30 and 50 percent) relative humidity. Relative humidity can be measured with a moisture
or humidity meter, a small, inexpensive ($10-$50)
instrument available at many hardware stores.
  • If you see condensation or moisture collecting on windows, walls or pipes act quickly to dry the wet surface and reduce the moisture/water source. Condensation can be a sign of high humidity.

Actions that will help to reduce humidity:

  • Vent appliances that produce moisture, such as clothes dryers, stoves, and kerosene heaters to the outside where possible. (Combustion appliances such as stoves and kerosene heaters produce water vapor and will increase the humidity unless vented to the outside.)
  • Use air conditioners and/or de-humidifiers
    when needed.
  • Run the bathroom fan or open the window when showering. Use exhaust fans or open windows whenever cooking, running the dishwasher, or washing dishes, etc.

Actions that will help prevent condensation:

  • Reduce the humidity
  • Increase ventilation or air movement by opening doors and/or windows, when practical. Use fans as needed.
  • Cover cold surfaces, such as cold water pipes, with insulation.
  • Increase air temperature.

A Salute to First Responders

9/28/2018 (Permalink)

"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” This famous Mr. Rogers quote comes to mind when we celebrate first responders: those who arrive first on the scene of any disaster or emergency.

In the event of a disaster or emergency, there are many different agencies and people in your community who are ready to respond. Whether it’s a house fire or a hurricane, we are thankful every day for these first responders.

Firefighters, EMTs, and Police

Local fire and police departments, as well as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), are often first on the scene of an emergency. In the U.S., there are more than 29,700 fire departments with 1,160,450 total firefighters, according to the National Fire Protection Association’s 2015 U.S. Fire Department Profile.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are almost 245,000 EMTs and paramedics in the U.S. In the U.S. there are about 18,000 federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies, employing more than 750,000 full time sworn officers, according to the Uniformed Crime Reporting Program collected by the FBI.

Military

When events such as natural disasters strike, different branches of the military are often a first line of response. The Army National Guard and Air National Guard, with over 342,000 soldiers, respond domestically when deployed by their state Governor, often during states of emergency from weather-related events. They can also be called upon during terrorist attacks or civil unrest, or called overseas by the President of the United States.

Active duty soldiers can also be called upon for certain domestic events as well.

FEMA Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

As a part of FEMA’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), these volunteers are trained to be prepared for any disasters that may affect your local area in an effort to support professional responders. CERT volunteers are trained in “basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations,” according to FEMA.

With more than 2,700 CERT programs, over 600,000 individuals have been trained nationwide. Teams are managed locally, but supported nationally by FEMA.

SERVPRO® of East Cobb recognizes these and the countless other first responders in our communities for keeping our communities safe.

Lightning Safety Tips

9/28/2018 (Permalink)

Although lightning can strike anytime, the chances for lighting increases in the summer months. Stay safe with these basic tips.

  • Have a lighting safety plan, and cancel/postpone outdoor activities if thunderstorms are expected.
  • If you do get caught outside, avoid high ground, open spaces, and all metal objects including electric wires, fences, etc. Seek shelter in a substantial building or a fully enclosed metal vehicle.
  • If you are indoors, stay away from doors and windows. Do not use the telephone. Consider unplugging computers, power tools, and TV sets. Lighting may strike exterior electric/phone lines, inducing shocks to inside equipment.

Floods are one of the most common and widespread natural disasters in the United States. Whether your home or business is near a coastline, along a city streets, in the mountains, near a river, or even in the desert, there is always potential for flood damage. FEMA.gov reports in the last 5 years, all 50 states have experienced floods or flash floods. Just because you haven't experienced a flood in the past does not mean you won't in the future. In fact, nearly 20% of all flood insurance claims come from moderate-to-low risk areas, and even just one inch of flood damage in an average home can cost you up to $27,000.

According to the American Red Cross, floods cause more damage in the U.S. every year any other weather related disaster. The American Red Cross offers the following safety tips.

  • Stay away from floodwaters. If you come up on a flowing stream where water is above your ankles, sop, turn around, and go another way. Six inches of swiftly moving water can sweep you off your feet.
  • If you approach a flooded road while driving, turn around and go another way. If you are caught on a flooded road and waters are rising rapidly around you, get our of the car quickly and move to higher ground. Most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of moving water.
  • Keep children out of the water. They are curious and often lack judgment about running water or contaminated water.

If a flood does strike your home or business, contact SERVPRO of East Cobb (770) 424-0400. Even minor floods have the potential to cause major damage to a structure when not treated quickly and properly, and the cleanup is often an overwhelming task. What To Do Until Help Arrives

9/26/2018 (Permalink)

A fire can leave behind soot, smoke damage and a host of other problems. Ceilings, walls, woodwork, carpeting and floors will often need a thorough professional cleaning. If your home or business suffers a fire, it is important to take the appropriate steps to prevent further damage until SERVPRO of East Cobb arrives. The following tips may help reduce damage and increase chances of a successful restoration:

DO:

  • Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpet.
  • Keep hands clean. Soot on hands can further soil upholstery, walls, and woodwork.
  • Place dry, colorfast towels or old linens on rugs, upholstery, and caret traffic areas.
  • If electricity is off, empty freezer/refrigerator completely and prop doors open to help prevent odor.
  • Wipe soot from chrome kitchen/bathroom faucets, trim, and appliances, then protect these surfaces with a light coating o lubricant.
  • If heat is off during winter, pour RV antifreeze in sinks, toilet bowls, holding tanks, and tubs to avoid freezing pipes and fixtures.
  • Change HVAC filters; leave system off until a trained professional can check the system.
  • Tape double layers of cheesecloth over air registers to stop particles of soot from getting in or out of the HVAC system.

DON'T:

  • Don't attempt to wash any walls or painted surfaces without first contacting trained professionals like SERVPRO of East Cobb
  • Don't attempt to shampoo carpet or upholstered furniture without first consulting trained professionals.
  • Do not attempt to clean any electrical appliances (TV sets, radios, etc.) that may have been close to fire, heat, or water with out first consulting a authorized repair service.
  • Do not consume any food or beverages that may have been stored close to fire, heat, or water as they may be contaminated.
  • If ceiling is wet, do not turn on ceiling fans. Wiring maybe wet or damaged and cause electrical shock, and air movement may create secondary damage.
  • Don't send garments to the dry cleaner. Improper cleaning may set in smoke odor.

Flooding is the most common natural disaster in the United States and can happen anywhere. Preparing for a flood is crucial in order to protect yourself, your property, and your business from flood damage. There are some guidelines the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) encourage business owners to take under consideration, so that business owners can act quickly when the time comes when your home, or your business is in danger.

Call SERVPRO of East Cobb -Emergency Flood & Water Removal (770) 424-0400

Flooding is an overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry. Flooding may happen with only a few inches of water, or it may cover a business or home's rooftop. Flooding can occur during any season, but some areas of the country are at greater risk at certain times of the year.

Coastal areas are at greater risk for flooding during hurricane season (i.e., June to November), while the Midwest is more at risk in the spring and during heavy summer rains. Ice jams occur in the spring in the Northeast and Northwest. Even the deserts of the Southwest are at risk during the late summer monsoon season.

Flooding can happen in any U.S. state or territory. It is particularly important to be prepared for flooding if you live in a low-lying area near a body of water, such as a river, stream, or culvert; along a coast; or downstream from a dam or levee.

Flooding can occur in several ways, including the following:

  • Rivers and lakes cannot contain excessive rain or snow melt.
  • Excessive rain or snow melt cannot be fully absorbed into the ground.
  • Waterways are blocked with debris or ice and overflow.
  • Water containment systems break, such as levees, dams, or water or sewer systems.
  • Strong winds from tropical storms or hurricanes cause a storm surge by pushing seawater onto land.

The speed and duration of flooding can vary significantly.

  • Flooding can occur slowly as rain continues to fall for many days. This type of flooding, sometimes called a slow-onset flood, can take a week to develop and can last for months before floodwaters recede.
  • Rapid-onset floods occur more quickly, typically developing within hours or days. These types of floods usually occur in smaller watersheds experiencing heavy rainfall, particularly in mountainous and urban areas, and the water usually recedes within a few days.
  • Some rapid-onset floods known as flash floods occur very quickly with little or no warning, such as during periods of extremely heavy rain or when levees, dams, ice jams, or water systems break. Densely populated areas are at a high risk for flash floods. In urban areas, flash floods can fill underpasses, viaducts, parking structures, low roads, and basements.
  • The strong winds of a tropical cyclone or hurricane can push large amounts of seawater up onto the land, causing a storm surge. A storm surge combines with the ocean’s tide to produce a storm-tide surge. Storm-tide surges have been registered as high as almost 35 feet above normal sea level and can cause significant flooding across a large area. This generally occurs over a short period, typically 4 to 8 hours, but in some areas, it can take much longer for the water to recede to its pre-storm level.

The physical destruction caused by flooding depends on the speed and level of the water, the duration of the flood, terrain and soil conditions, and the built environment (e.g., buildings, roads, and bridges).

  • Flooding can cause fatalities and serious injuries for people who are trapped or swept away by wading in, driving through, or boating across floodwaters.
  • Transportation routes, power, water, gas, and other services may be disrupted.
  • Commercial supplies and government support systems may be temporarily unavailable.
  • Drinking water supplies and wells may become polluted.
  • Floodwaters can cause erosion, which can damage roads, bridge structures, levees, and buildings with weak foundations, causing their collapse without warning. The floodwaters may carry the worn-away mud, rocks, and other sediment.
  • Landslides and mudslides can occur.
  • Even a few inches of floodwater in a home can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage

Smoke Alarms: Life Savers

9/13/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Smoke Alarms: Life Savers Call SERVPRO of East Cobb if you are need of fire remediation services. We are here to help!

Smoke alarms save lives when properly installed and maintained, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

In homes, smoke alarms should be in every bedroom and on every level, including the basement. In office and commercial environments check your state requirements or contact local Fire Marshall to help ensure all codes are met.

Test smoke alarms monthly using test button. Smoke alarms with non-replaceable batteries need the entire smoke alarm unit replaced every then years. Other alarms need batteries, replace the batteries every year and replace all together every ten years. If alarm chirps signaling low battery signals replace batteries immediately. Never disable or remove batteries with out replacing them or replacing the fire detector. Almost half of all fires where smoke alarms were present, the fire detector was inoperable due to missing batteries or in need of replacement.

In larger commercial facilities, hard wired or wireless smoke alarms offer benefits such as not needing to be tested as often and activating throughout the entire building if smoke is detected in just one area.

Be sure your home or workplace has a fire emergency plan in place and conduct regular fire drills.

Hoarding Is A Fire Hazard

8/6/2018 (Permalink)

If you are like most people you probably have at least one room in your house dedicated to "storage". This is a practical way of keeping items that you don't use regularly but need to keep around for one reason or another (sporting goods, seasonal decorations, keepsakes or antiques). Storing items in this manor is a healthy practice and make both financial and practical sense. However, it is important to keep storage areas clean and organized. Not only so that you can access your belongings easily, but also to prevent the area from growing out of control and to reduce unnecessary wear and tear on your items.

We all probably know someone that has a hard time throwing things away or we might even have issues with this task ourselves. No one wants to be wasteful and we definitely don’t want to have to re-purchase items that we discarded in the past. There is a big difference between keeping items for practical reasons/future use and hoarding.

As defined by the Mayo Clinic, "Hoarding disorder is a persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions because of a perceived need to save them. A person with hoarding disorder experiences distress at the thought of getting rid of the items. Excessive accumulation of items, regardless of actual value, occurs." This inability to discard items can results in cramped living conditions. In some cases, homes are filled to capacity with clutter.

Here are some signs or symptoms the Mayo Clinic advise us to be mindful of:

  • Excessively acquiring items that are not needed or for which there's no space
  • Persistent difficulty throwing out or parting with your things, regardless of actual value
  • Feeling a need to save these items, and being upset by the thought of discarding them
  • Building up of clutter to the point where rooms become unusable
  • Having a tendency toward indecisiveness, perfectionism, avoidance, procrastination, and problems with planning and organizing

Hoarding items can result in some major issues. Cleanliness and general order typically decline and there are some genuine fire concerns when it come to properties that have become over crowed by hoarding.

Here are some fire safety risks brought on by hoarding, provided by FEMA:

  • Personal items can crowd cooking equipment, making it unsafe to cook.
  • Personal items can crowd heating equipment, putting you at risk of having a fire.
  • Blocked windows and doors make it difficult for firefighters to get into the home to fight the fire and search for occupants.
  • Piles of belongings make it difficult for firefighter to move through your home quickly.
  • Always keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from cooking and heating equipment

Kitchen Cooking Fires Prevention & Tips

7/30/2018 (Permalink)

Of all the rooms in your home, the kitchen is the one in which you may spend more of your active time than anywhere else. This is where you gather, entertain, eat and, of course, cook. Unfortunately, this is one of the most common areas in the home where fires start. Often, destructive fires start because of unsafe cooking practices. It’s important to follow some best practices and tips to keep fires away.

  1. Watch Your Clothes
    • You may not think of your attire as being important when it comes to fire prevention tips. However, if you’re not careful, loose and dangling clothing could touch a burner or come into contact with grease. This could injure you and could even spread flames in your kitchen.
  2. Clean, Clean, Clean
    • Not only will cleaning up grease and other materials help your kitchen look nicer, but this will reduce the risk of a grease fire. As soon as you’ve finished preparing and cooking your meal, wipe down the surfaces of your stove.
  3. Stay Nearby
    • Whether you’re standing at the stove or using an electric skillet, it’s important to not leave any cooking food unattended. Un-monitored cooking can lead to extensive fire damage.
-Stay in the kitchen whether you’re grilling, frying or broiling your meal.
-If you have to leave for any reason, turn the stove or other appliance off.
-If possible, have someone at your watch your food while you step away.
  4. Use a Timer
    • It’s easy to throw something in the oven and forget about it, especially if you leave the kitchen and go into another room or outside. Setting a timer will help reduce the risk of a fire starting in the oven and spreading to other areas.

These simple fire prevention tips could help save you and your loved ones from catastrophe. Be conscientious as you cook and entertain so you can avoid the terrible consequences of a house fire.

We Specialize in Flooded Basement Cleanup and Restoration

6/13/2018 (Permalink)

A basement can flood at any time, although flooding most often occurs during heavy rainfall. Basements are inherently prone to flooding because they are the lowest level of a building and are normally built partly or entirely below ground level. There are a number of reasons why your basement could flood, including:

  • A blocked or failed sewer lateral pipe
  • Heavy rain causes surface water to pool around your home
  • Storm sewer backup
  • Sanitary sewer backup
  • Foundation drainage failure
  • Water supply-line break or hot-water tank failure
  • And many more

If flood water is not handled quickly and properly, it can jeopardize your health and safety, and cause severe damage to your home’s structure. Remember, the longer you wait, the worse the problem will get.

The bottom line: a flooded basement can jeopardize your health, safety, and your home’s integrity.

It’s worth making a call to SERVPRO of East Cobb and let our trained, professional crews handle the situation safely and correctly. We have earned the trust of hundreds of homeowners, business owners, and property professionals.

After the Storm Pass Call SERVPRO of East Cobb

6/13/2018 (Permalink)

How should you check your property for storm damage?

After the storm has passed, it is so important to conduct a thorough storm damage inspection. With the changing weather, Kennesaw and Marietta are going to suffer heavy rains, strong winds, and powerful storms. While your home is able to protect you from Mother Nature, your home should be thoroughly checked for damages once the storm has passed. You may not have a reason to suspect that your home has been damaged as it may not be evident initially. However, once the inclement weather has safely passed through, it is extremely important to assess for damages and what repairs may need to be done before another storm comes along. The following is a handy damage assessment list that should be followed after the storm has passed by the National Storm Damage Center:

Roof

Your roof is typically one of the most vulnerable areas during a storm especially with all of the trees in residential areas of Cobb County. Hail, wind, rain and debris can adversely impact your room and may cause permanent damage to the integrity of your roof. The following indicators can help in your assessment-

  • Holes or tears in the roof.
  • Split seams.
  • Lost or missing shingles.
  • Ceiling or roof leaks.

Do not attempt to climb to your roof if there are still dangers or if you suspect your roof to not be secure.

The Exterior of the Dwelling

Materials such as brick, siding and stucco are usually heavy and durable. However, during a storm, they may not be able to withstand significant damages that a storm may cause. In some cases, problems may not arise, or be noticed, until it is too late to file an insurance claim. Be diligent and pay attention to the following areas of your home-

  • Chipping, cracking, dents and dings being obvious signs of damage to the exterior of your home.
  • Small or large holes in stucco.
  • Damaged tuck pointing and brick.
  • Detached or ruined gutters, trip, downspouts, etc.

Driveways, Walkways and Porches

Concrete can split, chip and crack with continuous storms and rain. Should you have gravel or dirt on your driveway, this could lead to flooding and additional damage to the structure of your home. These damages can reduce the lifespan of your walkway and can cause damage to your home even after the storm has passed.

Trees and Fallen Limbs

According to the National Storm Damage Center, fallen trees and branches can cause billions of dollars in damages each year. Make sure you do not have an excessive amount of overgrown vegetation surrounding your home as this can be a tool to cause additional damage to your home.

Basic Tips:

  • Severe storms may knock down power and electrical lines. Should this happen near you, do not approach the line, and call your power company immediately.
  • After a storm, assess your fencing, air conditioning units, vents, and garages for damages.
  • Crawlspaces and basements should be inspected for flooding and damage.
  • Document all the damage.

Lots of things can go wrong in your home while you’re on vacation, most commonly leaks and water damage. Read our steps below to learn how to help prevent and reduce the risk of water damage when you’re away:

Check for Leaks

Before you leave on vacation, be sure to check around your house for any leaks. Pipes under sinks, your water heater, anything resembling rust, cracks, or other damage. It’s important to check the seals around your windows and the exterior of your home as well. If you find any leakage, be sure to fix it right away so everything can be repaired and in good condition before you leave.

Inspect Appliances

Important appliances such as your dishwasher, washer/dryer, and refrigerator are all connected to your home by hoses. If these hoses are damaged in any way, they can cause major water damage to your home. Inspect your appliances and, if needed, replace their hoses prior to leaving on vacation.

Clean Your Gutters

Cleaning leaves and other debris out from your gutters before taking a vacation is an easy way to prevent potential blockage and build up. To learn more about the advantages of clean gutters, click here.

Turn Off the Water

Whenever you leave your home for an extended period of time, it’s important to turn off the water main and make sure the pipes are completely drained. This will stop any water from continually leaking in your home while you’re away. Simply run the water and flush your toilet after you turn off the water.

Have Someone Check on Your Home

Coordinate to have someone come over and check on your home while you’re away. Having a friend, neighbor, or family member keep an eye on your property can help keep it in good shape, and they can notify you immediately if something goes wrong.

With these tips, you can truly enjoy your vacation with the peace of mind that your home is safe from any potential water damage that could occur in your absence. How Does Blasting Remove Mold?

5/14/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation How Does Blasting Remove Mold? SERVPRO of East Cobb is the area leader in mold removal!

You pride yourself on your home ownership skills. If a problem arises with your Kennesaw, GA house, you know exactly how to fix it. And, if you can't do it yourself, you know who to call. That's why you weren't too concerned when you found mold in your crawlspace. Rather than fret, you plan to simply call in a residential mold remediation expert. This professional may come to your house, inspect the damage and give you a cleanup plan. For many snug areas, a mold soda blasting technique is considered best.

Consider the Mold Cleaning Process

While you trust the advice of experts, you still want to learn more about the process. The typical blasting procedure is done in the following steps:

1. A cleaning solution is combined.
2. The solution is put into the spraying equipment.
3. The spray is applied to the moldy walls, floor and ceiling of the crawlspace at a high-pressure setting.
4. A vacuum is used to suck up the fallen mold spores.
5. The surfaces are given a final wipe down to ensure the fungus has been cleaned away.

With these steps, most mold damage will be removed from the space.

Learn About the Benefits

Now that you know how it works, why is this mold removal process right for your space? The high-pressure cleaning and the mixture used cleans deep into the pores of the wood to ensure even the mold roots are washed away. You'll also be surprised with how quickly mold soda blasting can be completed. If the same team came into your crawlspace to clean the fungus growth by hand, it would take them almost four times as long to clean the space.

If your home has recently been touched by flooding, you may be extra concerned about the possibility of there being new mold growth. Thankfully, you know exactly where to turn should you find any suspicious signs or smell anything musty.

Visit www.SERVPROofeastcobbga.com for more information on mold or give us a call at (770) 424-0400.

Tips for Choosing the Right Biohazard Cleanup Service

5/1/2018 (Permalink)

Always Choose Trained Professionals

  • Because it’s traumatic: No one should have to deal with the personal impact of cleaning up after the traumatic loss of a loved one. A professional SERVPRO can get a situation cleaned up quickly, compassionately and discreetly.
  • Because it’s safer: Federal regulations classify all human and animal remains, including blood, urine, feces, vomit and bodily fluids, as biohazards. This is because they have the potential of carrying life-threatening pathogens such as Hepatitis B and C, AIDS, HIV, MRSA, Tuberculosis and many more. The safe cleanup and removal of biohazardous materials involves extensive analysis and detailed work, and the use of state-of-the-art cleaning and odor removal technologies.

Need Biohazard Cleanup? Call Us Today – (770) 424-0400

Licensed Bonded & Insured

  • It is important to use licensed professionals because they conduct safe cleanup, removal and disposal of bio-hazardous waste. Cleanup crews will be coming into your home or the home of your loved one, so be sure the professional you choose is bonded and insured.

Approved Vendors for Most Major Insurance Companies

You can minimize or eliminate your out-of-pocket expenses by working with licensed and bonded professionals such as SERVPRO of East Cobb who will deal directly with insurance companies, saving you one more headache in this already difficult process.

We provide cleanup and recovery services for many biohazard situations. These include the following:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Can I just use my regular cleaning or janitorial service for biohazard cleanup of blood or bodily fluids?

A: Not unless your regular cleaning or janitorial service has been properly trained and equipped to handle biohazard cleanup and waste such as blood or bodily fluids, and has a legal place to dispose of the recovered biohazardous waste.

Q: Who pays for bio-recovery services?

What to Do After a Flood In Marietta, GA

4/9/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage What to Do After a Flood In Marietta, GA Fastest to any size disaster!!! Water, Fire, Mold, & Storm Restoration

Floods are one of the most common natural disasters in North America, but not all floods are alike. Some develop gradually after days of slow, steady rain while others are flash floods resulting from a deluge of rain or dam failure.

Storms can cause severe damage to your home—potentially even making them unsafe! SERVPRO of East Cobb is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for catastrophic storm response, and you can call us at (770) 424-0400 to get immediate help.

What You Should Do After a Flood

Even if you were properly prepared for the flood and weathered the storm until it passed, your home could still have sustained heavy damage. Now that the sky is blue once more, how do you proceed? Here’s a look at what to do after a flood:

Be Cautious

Just because the sun is shining and the flood waters have receded, that doesn’t mean all danger has passed. Exercise caution by doing the following:

  • Tune into local alerts and warning systems to stay up-to-date with current information and receive expert, informed advice about the flood. After all, additional flooding could still occur.
  • Stay away from rushing water. Moving water only 6 inches deep can sweep you off your feet.
  • Avoid walking through large areas of standing water, which may be electrically charged by downed power lines. The water could also be hiding broken glass or dangerous animals.
  • Unless you are specifically asked for help by the police, fire department, or relief workers, keep out of damaged areas.
  • Help emergency workers by staying off the roads in and out of the damaged neighborhood or region.
  • If you’re caught in a stalled car during a flash flood, abandon the car and get to higher ground immediately.
  • Heed barricades and find an alternate route if you encounter one blocking your way. Crossing bridges even after the water has receded could be dangerous if the structural integrity has been jeopardized.
  • Return home only when the authorities permit it. Even then, stay out of the building if it’s surrounded by flood waters and exercise extreme caution when you do enter.

Stay Safe and Healthy

Take care of you and your family as cleanup efforts begin. To stay safe and healthy, remember the following:

  • Turn off the home’s electricity at the main breaker box, even if the power is out. Only turn the power on when your home is dry.
  • Avoid floodwater, which may be contaminated with sewage, gasoline, or oil.
  • Fix damaged sewer systems as soon as possible.
  • Don’t drink water from the tap. Listen to news reports to learn when the community’s water is safe to drink again.

Clean and Repair Your Home

  • Use the information in the Repairing Your Flooded Home PDF from the Red Cross to learn how to enter your home safely, protect your belongings from future damage, record damage for insurance claims, check for gas leaks, and begin the cleanup process.
  • Contact your insurance agent to discuss your claim.
  • Hire a professional water damage mitigation company as soon as possible. It’s important that the company is qualified for the services you need. SERPVRO is available 24/7 to help when you need it most. Not only are we a local command center, but we also have the resources of 1,600 franchises nationwide—meaning no disaster is too big.

  • Make sure your mail is collected; burglars often look for homes with overflowing mail.
  • The Post office can suspend your mail and deliver the day you get back. Here is a link to the US Post Office.

Take plumbing and electric precautions.

  • Prevent leaks and floods from damaging your home by shutting off gas and water at the meter, supply tank, or appliances.

SERVPRO of East Cobb: Your Experts in Commercial Water Damage Restoration in North Georgia

11/6/2017 (Permalink)

Handle Your Kennesaw Commercial Water Damage With SERVPRO of East Cobb

If you have recently become a victim of commercial water damage in Kennesaw, you may be wondering what you can do to mitigate your damages. There is a critical period in which certain actions must be taken to preserve as much of your property as possible and to decrease any health risks when water damage has occurred in a commercial space.

Preparing a Space for Water Damage Restoration

Before you enter your commercial space or any flooded building, you will need to make sure the electrical power to the structure is shut off. You should also be aware that during a flooding event, small animals or reptiles tend to seek shelter inside of buildings. Be prepared to deal with the discovery of wild animals in your space.

Protect yourself from entering any flooded building by wearing an organic vapor respirator. You can purchase these at any local paint and building supply stores. You also want to have rubber gloves, protective clothing, and eye protection. The first thing you should do is ventilate the affected areas by opening the windows and placing fans where possible.

Unfortunately, there likely will be items that you need to throw away. Any items that are porous and have absorbed contaminated floodwater cannot be restored. If your commercial space has drywall, mattresses, pillows, box springs, particle board, carpets or carpet pads, these will need to be discarded if they have become saturated. However, there is good news: If you have clothing or household fabrics that can be machine-washed, you may be able to salvage them. Use your washing machine to clean these items with a 10-minute soak at the minimum in hot water with detergent. The soap and normal wash should remove most of the contamination and any staining that is present.

Be aware that your commercial space will need a thorough professional inspection, cleaning and possibly restructuring. Water damaged walls and installations must be removed and repaired, and pockets of saturation should be exposed for drying and sanitizing. Always remember that mold growth could take a few days to appear as it thrives in a moist environment with organic-type materials such as paper or particle board and in temperatures that range between 60 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep good airflow throughout the interior environment, and maintain moderate temperatures to decrease the risk of any mold growth. It is also important that you let your space dry out before any rebuilding occurs.

Smoke and Soot Can Cause Long Term Damage to Possessions and Structures

10/23/2017 (Permalink)

The neighbors notice smoke coming from your two-story, single family home and call for help. As the Firefighters arrive, there is significant fire showing from both of the front side windows, with smoke billowing out of the cracks around your front door.

Time is crucial during a fire damage incident that strikes your East Cobb home. You will want access to a company that responds to your call immediately, with the proper amount of personnel, equipment, and the experience required to provide you with the services you deserve.

SERVPRO of East Cobb proudly serves our community!

SERVPRO technicians learn early on that time plays a huge factor when dealing with repairs or attempting to prevent secondary damages from developing. While our primary goal is providing a safe environment for everyone involved, we also try to perform our services as quickly and efficiently as possible for our customers.

SERVPRO technicians understand the components of smoke and how fire, smoke, and heat affect your structure and its contents. Our fire damage restoration service involves removing soot residues caused by smoke and combustion effects on various surfaces and different kinds of materials.

Combustion takes place as a material burns, turning a solid into a gas by way of heat. As this process occurs, the burning material is breaking down, combining with oxygen, and giving off heat. With a perfect combination of fuel, oxygen, and heat, there wouldn't be any residues after a fire. However, when these three components are out of balance, the combustion process produces several different types of smoke and soot residues

SERVPRO technicians are taught that when burning materials decompose, they release small solid particles, gasses, and aerosols that are lighter than air. These materials are what we describe as smoke.

Gas - The invisible component of smoke, is created by oxides of nitrogen produced by burning organic compounds, or sulfur dioxides while burning inorganic compounds.

Particles - Small unburnt particles of matter and carbon, light enough to suspend in the air. These particles are what gives smoke it is visible appearance.

Soot - Once smoke settles onto a surface, it is called soot and contains several different types of acids, created when chlorides and sulfides clash with the humidity in the air, causing discoloration, staining, and corrosion on materials over time.

When in need of fire damage restoration, please contact SERVPRO of East Cobb!  (770) 424-0400

Steps to Removing Smoke Odors After a Fire in Your Kennesaw Home

10/23/2017 (Permalink)

Steps to Removing Smoke Odors After a Fire

Whether it's a fire in home or fire in business situation, the smoke smell left behind can linger for days and even weeks. That odor can penetrate deep into your nasal tissues and make it hard for you to catch your breath. Those odors can even bring back bad memories of that fire. To get rid of the smoke smell, you need to opt for fire damage restoration and hire professionals to help you with the fire cleanup after a fire in home or fire in business.

  • Remove Items for Cleaning

One of the first things that fire cleanup professionals will do is remove any items from the room or home that need cleaning. This can include mattresses, box springs, upholstered furniture and even your kids' stuffed animals. If there is anything in the space not suffering from soot damage or smoke damage, professionals can safely store those things for you.

  • Removing Soot Damage

Soot damage is a type of residential or commercial fire damage that the fire left behind. This thick soot can look like dark streaks on the walls or floors and completely coat surfaces with a thick layer of black soot. Removing this type of fire damage often requires extensive cleaning. Fire damage professionals will do a thorough inspection to ensure that home is safe and habitable before doing any soot damage cleanup.

  • Fire in Home Evaluation

Part of the fire damage restoration process involves a deep evaluation of the home. Fire cleanup professionals will take the time to identify the cause of the fire and look at the smoke damage left behind. This is an important step in the fire cleanup process because it ensures that there is not any significant damage to the structure that needs fixed before the fire cleanup can begin.

  • Cleaning Walls and Floors

Whether dealing with residential or commercial fire damage, these professionals will clean both the walls and the floors. The smoke smell and smoke damage caused by that fire can penetrate inside those surfaces and cause the odor to stick around long after the fire is out. Experts generally use chemicals that are safe for both pets and small children. They may also use specially made deodorizers designed for use after a fire in home or fire in business that neutralize the scents left behind.

  • Specially Treated Surfaces

If you ever experienced a fire in business or home before and tried to clean it up on your own, you likely found that the smell lingered for a long time. This is because you do not have access to the same tools and supplies as fire damage professionals do. The professionals you hire can treat your walls, floors and even ceilings with products that work like sealants. These products actually lock the odors and keep those scents from taking over your home or commercial property.

  • For Commercial Fire Damage

Fire damage restoration experts use many of the same procedures and steps when dealing with commercial fire damage. A fire can break out in a commercial building because of faulty wiring, an electronic that overheats or a sprinkler system that doesn't kick on when a fire spreads from another building. Fire cleanup professionals both evaluate and inspect the structure to look for any repairs that you need to do first before taking care of the smoke damage. Your building may need a total emptying of all the furniture, decorations, office supplies and stock that you have before cleaning begins.

The smoke smell left behind after a fire can bring up traumatic memories in your mind and make you want to spend less time at home or work. Fire damage restoration experts have all the tools and experience necessary to eliminate those odors. Once you experience any type of fire in any type of building, call a trustworthy fire damage cleanup company to help you remove soot, smoke and other types of damage.

Steps to Restoring Your Kennesaw Property After Water Damage

10/23/2017 (Permalink)

Steps To Restoring Property After Water Damage

Water or flood damage restoration is the removal of water and its residual effects from a business or home.

If you have a pipe break, supply line break or any other water or flood damage related issue, don’t delay, call the water restoration experts at a restoration company.

Water in business or flooded home can result from supply line break, pipe break busted or natural flooding. No matter the reason for water in home or water in business, a professional's fast response to your water damage location will help prevent further damage and give you the peace of mind you need during a catastrophe.

Mitigation professionals know the impact water in business or flooded home can have on appliances, furniture, flooring, and appliances, and that’s why they provide a one-stop solution for complete water damage restoration. This means restoration technicians help with every step of the mitigation process including water cleanup, drying and sanitization and repairing damaged areas.

Any business or home owner who is experiencing a flooded home or water in business, should contact a restoration company as soon as possible. A pipe break or supply line break and the water damage that it causes is the nightmare of every business or home owner. Even a broken sink pipe or toilet overflow can cause a significant amount of damage to a business, home and possessions.

When you contact a reputable restoration company for water in home or water in business problem, the water cleanup experts will respond promptly to address the situation properly. Professionals have the right equipment and skills to provide efficient water cleanup and drying and ensure successful mitigation.

Here’s the formula for re-mediating damage from flooded home or business property:

When you call a restoration company, trained technicians arrive at the scene of the flood damage as soon as possible. That way they can contain the damage quickly and take other necessary steps.

Once they arrive at the property, the first step is to locate the source of the flood water and ensure that any pipe break or supply line break is dealt with appropriately. They make sure that no more water is seeping in before they can get to work with their assessment.

A disaster response team will assess the extent of water damage using innovative technology like moisture reading equipment and thermal imaging. After assessing and documenting the water damage, an in-depth restoration plan is prepared.

Once they’ve stopped the flow, they extract all stagnant water using commercial grade extractors. They have thorough water cleanup procedures that ensure every last drop of water or moisture is removed from the building. They also clean away silt and continue with sterilization of water damaged areas.

Once the water is extracted, mitigation professionals will carefully pull up any carpeting making sure to avoid tearing, and carpet padding will be discarded.

Then certified technicians begin drying the area in order to get rid of hidden pockets of water and moisture. They do this by setting up large dehumidifiers and commercial fans to make sure everything in the home or business’ building structure is dry.

Once they have dried out the area they use thermal detectors to determine what can be salvaged and what needs to be disposed off. Often carpeting and dry wall cannot be saved if it remained in wet condition for too long.

The final step in flood damage cleanup and drying is to restore the home or business to its pre-damage state – restoring flooring, structural damage, rebuilding ceilings and walls and repainting.

The process of flooded home or business restoration is neither simple nor easy.
Whether you are dealing with water in home or business, a reliable restoration company has the resources and a team of skilled technicians to address the situation properly. It is imperative that you contact a restoration company immediately for all of your flooded home or water in home or business mitigation needs. Visit www.SERVPROeastcobbga.com for more information on water damage.

How to Select a Credible Water Damage Restoration Service

10/23/2017 (Permalink)

How to Pick a Credible Water Damage Restoration Service

Unexpected storms, floods, sewerage leakages, and burst pipes can cause serious water damage to a property if not resolved promptly. A quick restoration is very necessary in rectifying water damage in order to avoid further expensive damages like mold growth, plumbing defects, and circuitry disconnections. Although a DIY approach is an option for solving the issue, massive water damage can only be solved by professionals with the right skill set, equipment, and experience in restoring a water in home or water in business disasters.

Unfortunately, there are several unqualified handymen out there who masquerade as qualified and licensed water damage mitigation professionals or experts by overstating their qualifications and experience. Hiring a trained technician will help a homeowner or commercial building manager a lot of dollars. Here are tips on how to choose the perfect flood damage mitigation expert who can get the job done right the first time:

  • Certification

Although the industry doesn't have strict regulations, a property owner should ensure that he or she interviews certified candidates who have some training on water damage mitigation. A contractor with a certification is proof that he takes his jobs seriously and he can do the necessary repairs adequately. A property owner should hire a contractor or an agency that has technicians who are certified by the Restoration Industry Association (RIA) and the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC). The certification shows that the candidate has up to date training and latest techniques in handling water in homes or water in businesses. IICRC has a certified firm registrant database that enables property owners who have suffered flood damage to get professional help reliably.

  • Reputation

Insurance companies have a list of established flood damage mitigation service providers who can come in handy in helping property owners to get quick help in case of water in homes and water in business premises. Unfortunately, some insurance companies keep a list of cheaper restoration companies or contractors who might not offer the best technology or services. Other credible options include seeking for referrals from friends and family members who have dealt with water damage disasters in the past, including moisture drying.

  • Equipment and services

It's advisable to choose a company that uses modern technology, protective gear, hazmat suits, and advanced equipment in the water cleanup processes. A good company should use the latest dehumidification, water extraction, and pump outs in drying and repairing the damaged property. It's also necessary to settle for a water cleanup contractor who offers you a wide range of water cleanup services. It's possible to find a mold removal company that offers water remediation services as well. This is a standard field of knowledge that experienced and advanced contractors should possess.

  • Availability

Steer clear of companies that are not willing to start the remediation and drying process immediately. Good companies with professional technicians who are available 24/7 for water cleanup can dry water in homes and water in business premises within a few hours, depending on the degree of damage. When there is standing water on a property, every minute counts! Reputable and professional flood damage mitigation experts know this, and they will act swiftly to salvage the damaged property. A technician who insists on telling the client to wait before he can begin the remediation portion of the process cannot be trusted to see the job through in a timely manner and carry out the drying.

The homeowner should choose a contractor or company that will give him a list of services and price estimates after evaluating the flood damage. Even a company that provides flood damage restorations services on an hourly basis should be able to give an estimate. Quality of service should come before price when choosing the right water cleanup restoration services to handle water in a business premise. Visit www.SERVPROeastcobbga.com for more information on water damage.

Protecting Your Kennesaw Commercial Property From A Fire Loss

10/23/2017 (Permalink)

Commercial fires often are the most devastating real estate that a property owner will have to oversee. In addition to wreaking havoc on your property, fires can force you to relocate temporarily so you can maintain running your business while the restoration process is completed. However, property owners who implement high-quality safety practices can often avoid the devastation and destruction that results from commercial fires. Read the brief outline provided below to learn how you can protect your property:

  • Install Automatic Fire Sprinklers

As many authorities know, having an automatic fire sprinkler on your property can reduce the risk of fire by up to 71%. Additionally, sprinklers can decrease your insurance premium. To keep your sprinkler in excellent condition, be sure that it is not blocked by dirt or paint. Also, be sure to inspect regularly your main control valve so that it is not left off. Finally, be sure that you take the precautions necessary to prevent the pipe from freezing.

  • Conduct Fire Emergency Training

Each of your employees should undergo fire safety training. The training can help prevent your staff members from being victimized. Here are a few subjects that should be covered in the emergency training:

  • Hazard Recognition

Keep all combustible chemicals and materials away from heat-generating and electrical equipment.

  • Prevention

Inspect your power sources regularly and don't overload your extension cords and outlets.

  • Response

Teach your employees how to respond when a fire breaks out. Some subjects that should be covered include how to perform an organized evacuation, operate the fire extinguisher, and set the fire alarm.

Other issues that should be involved in the training include:

  • Breathing Apparatus Training
  • Fire Extinguisher Training
  • Confined Space Entry Training
  • First Aid Training
  • General Staff Emergency Awareness Training
  • Evacuation Exercise

Also, be sure that your employee team officials undergo the following fire emergency response training:

  • Fire Safety Officer Training
  • Fire Safety Adviser Training
  • Chief and Deputy Chief Warden Training
  • Emergency Control Organization Warden Training
  • Spill Response Training
  • Lay Flat Hose Training

The Dangers of Mold & The Need For Mold Removal Services

10/23/2017 (Permalink)

Scientists have revealed that there are more than 1000 types mold that can breed in homes and buildings. If you are wondering why you should be concerned about the mold situation in your home, you’d be interested to note that on average, most people spend 70% of their time indoors. This means that you can easily be affected by exposure from mold damage, and smelly odor. Mold in home should not be taken lightly; mold removal needs to be sought from professional companies. Mitigation and deodorization of the mold damage is much easier than letting the situation get out of control.

To appreciate the need for mold removal services or commercial mold damage expertise, you need to understand the dangers of mold. If the mold in the home is visible, then the situation is already bad. However, the tricky bit about mold in home and fungus is that in most cases it is not visible. However, it could still be seriously affecting your health and that of the family.

Mold requires a host surface to grow on. Mold and fungi may lurk in places such as kitchen cabinets, walls and on bread. In fact, the green stuff often seen on bread is a cluster of networks of mold. This type of mold is visible to the naked eye, but most of the other types are not. These “un-clustered” types are usually in the air. This means that mold, and fungus are very hard to spot. In light of this, it is important to conduct a mold inspection check. Commercial mold damage companies have specialized tools to spot the mold in home and conduct mold removal, remediation and deodorization to deal with the smelly odor.

Mold also live off humid and warm environments just like other organic matters. These places include old newspapers, window sills, bathroom walls, wall-paper, ceilings and leather jackets. The same case applies to mildew which is a type of fungus or mold. Mildew also lurks in musty basements, shower walls and other places with high moisture. Mold, mildew, and fungus find a way into homes through doors, carpets, windows and walls. Mold spores can also be carried and dispersed into the environment through pets, shoes, and clothing.

If unattended, the mold situation can bring about a smelly odor. For this, mold damage professionals conduct deodorization to musk the smell and improve the indoor air quality. Most home owners ignore the mold, fungus and mildew removal on the argument that small amounts of these microorganisms cannot hurt. However, mold replicates and grows rapidly. When it gets worse, it leads to a serious hazard. Mold remediation should therefore not be taken lightly. Mitigation and mold removal services need to be sought immediately.

Mold removal services include deodorization, remediation, and mitigation. Commercial mold damage companies have the equipment, technology, and expertise to conduct thorough mold removal for mold in home and mold in business. It is a health risk to allow for mold to get out of hand, hiring mitigation services and improve the quality of air in your home.

Five Things To Know About Mold Damage in Kennesaw GA

10/23/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Technicians Look for Causes and Contributors to Mold Damage in Your Home

Kennesaw GA gets balmy sometimes during its beautiful warm weather seasons. It is also humid and wet at times. Unfortunately, these conditions tend to give rise to humidity and where there is humidity there is the risk of fungal growth. Homeowners in Kennesaw need to be aware of the problem of mold damage, and the difficulties of keeping mold away.

SERVPRO has much experience with mold damage in Kennesaw GA. Our customers ask us many questions about mold, what it is, how it grows, and how best to prevent it from coming back. Here are five facts about mold damage that we would like to share with you.

1. Mold can grow almost anywhere if it has enough moisture and food. Moisture is key to fungal growth, so anywhere that is humid is a prime location for the spores to settle and grow. Mold also needs a food source – most organic materials work.

2. Mold is around us all the time. It is not a very pleasant thought, but in fact, invisible mold spores are present in almost all of nature. The spores settle anywhere that has good growing conditions and set to work growing a new colony.

3. There is no such thing as mold eradication. Customers often ask us if it is possible to eradicate mold. The answer is no; it is not feasible to remove fungus altogether because it is omnipresent. However, it is possible to discourage regrowth by removing water sources.

4. The visible part of the mold that you see with your naked eye is called the mycelium and is made up of many tiny thread-like cells called hyphae. The hyphae release spores which travel to other locations within your home and set up new colonies.

5. You can do a lot to discourage mold growth by keeping your home dry and well ventilated and fixing any leaks or damp patches as soon as you find them.

SERVPRO’s IICRC-certified technicians are on hand for mold remediation in your home. We use a combination of scrubbing, wiping, and HEPA vacuuming to remove visible fungus. We also have negative air machines and dehumidifiers on hand to remove contaminated air and lower humidity.

How to Inspect a Fire Extinguisher

9/29/2017 (Permalink)

Fire Damage How to Inspect a Fire Extinguisher In the event of a home fire get to safety immediately and call 911 - Then call SERVPRO of East Cobb

When was the last time you took time to check the fire extinguisher that sits under your kitchen sink? Or the one hanging from a dusty hook in your garage? If you’re struggling to remember, it’s time to check it. Like any other piece of safety equipment, a home fire extinguisher should be inspected regularly to ensure it’s in proper working condition. A fire extinguisher in good working condition is your first line of defense when a home fire erupts.

Ideally, you should inspect your portable home fire extinguishers every month.

Tips for Performing a Monthly Fire Extinguisher Check

  • Check the label or tag.

Every fire extinguisher, whether disposable or rechargeable, has a manufacturer’s label or tag. Read the tag and follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance suggestions.

  • Check the tamper seal.

If the tamper seal has been broken or is cracked, a disposable fire extinguisher needs to be replaced. If it’s rechargeable, it needs to be serviced professionally. Check the locking or pull pin as well to make sure it’s in the correct position. If the pin missing, the fire extinguisher needs to be inspected or serviced by a professional.

  • Inspect for physical damage.

Physically inspect the fire extinguisher for obvious damage. This may include but is not limited to dents, corrosion, cracks and obvious leakage. If a fire extinguisher has leakage, it’s no longer under full pressure and may not work properly when you need it most. Check the fire extinguisher nozzle as well, to ensure it’s not clogged by grime, dust, bugs or leakage from the unit itself.

  • Check the pressure gauge.

Check that the pressure gauge needle indicates the fire extinguisher pressure is in the optimum operating range. Often the correct pressure range will be designated by green on the gauge.

  • Is the fire extinguisher full?

During your monthly check, lift the fire extinguisher and determine if it still feels full. If there has been a leak, it will feel light, and it won’t have the right amount of pressure to work correctly.

  • Shake it.

If you have a dry chemical fire extinguisher, it should be shaken once a month during your inspection. This helps prevent the chemical dousing agent from solidifying at the bottom of the unit.

  • Write inspection date on tag.

Keep track of every inspection date by writing it on the fire extinguisher tag.

  • Ensure easy access to your fire extinguisher.

Fire extinguishers should always be easy to access if there is an emergency. You don’t want to have to search for it once a fire breaks out. Don’t block fire extinguishers with furniture, boxes or any other items. Everyone who lives in the household should know where the closest fire extinguisher is located and how to use it in case of an emergency.

In the event of a fire emergency, first make sure to get people safely away, then call 911. A home fire extinguisher can be used to put out or control small fires, but it’s still safest to call professional fire fighters before you attempt to control a fire on your own.

Commercial SERVPRO of East Cobb are Commercial Drying Specialists Call SERVPRO of East Cobb for all of you commercial water drying needs! -(770) 424-0400-

Our SERVPRO Franchise has taken the IICRC Commercial Drying Specialist (CDS) class and has obtained special certifications to complete water mitigation in commercial buildings. Drying out a commercial building can be much different than performing a dry out service for a residential home. The materials a commercial building and residential home is built of can be completely different. The buildings are also used for different purposes.

The CDS course is a five day class and covers commercial, industrial, institutional and complex residential structures. The class teaches students to become skilled at performing damage inspections and evaluations. The class covers workflow management, process administration and technical methods of effective and timely drying of commercial, industrial, institutional and complex residential water damaged structures, systems and furniture.

Commercial drying projects often have additional potential hazards and safety risks than residential water mitigation projects. According to the IICRC, potential hazards include but are not limited to higher voltages, confined spaces, energized machinery, hazardous chemicals, heavy equipment and forklifts. In addition to this information, it is important that state and local laws for safety and contractor s are still followed.

If you are in need of having mitigation performed on a commercial or industrial building in the Cobb County area, make sure you utilize a company that has the knowledge to perform the services properly and effectively.

Water Damage Restoration - What You Need to Know

6/16/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage Water Damage Restoration - What You Need to Know If your home or business floods call SERVPRO of East Cobb - (770) 424-0400 -

From a broken pipe to inclement weather, standing water in a home or standing water in a business can cause mayhem on possessions and the property. It is hard to be prepared with full mitigation plans, but it is very important to react as fast as possible and expect to need water damage restoration. To minimize the harm done to the home, water cleanup and water damage restoration must happen quickly. When an emergency flooding happens, it is best to seek expert help and to do so as quickly as possible. Experts will arrive with high-tech, powerful equipment that will extract the water and minimize flood damage.

It is best to seek out certified experts who are trained extensively to deal with flooding emergencies whether the water is in the home or if the water is in a business. They can also advise homeowners on how to handle mitigation of water damage while the tenants or owners wait for them to arrive. Below is a list that can help reduce flood damage and help manage fallout mitigation.

  1. If possible, immediately stop the water at its source to reduce the water in the home or the water in the business and speed up water cleanup.
  2. If it is safe to do so turn off all electricity and move all smaller electric device.
  3. Pin up any furniture skirts, drapes, or tapestries that hang low or have contact with the floor to avoid water damage to the fabric.
  4. Wash your hands after moving damaged belongings.
  5. As much as possible, avoid walking on carpet.
  6. Remove all moisture-sensitive, fragile belongings, anything of high-value, as well as items that could cause stains.
  7. Move any furnishings that can be moved from the carpeted area of the home or place aluminum foil underneath furniture legs. This should help mitigation of the risk of long-lasting rust caused by flood damage.
  8. Plan for a water damage restoration team to move furniture to already drying areas.
  9. Avoid any/all possibility of electric shock to any living persons and pets. Do not use any electric devices until the emergency flood removal crew tells you it is okay. Do not use a shop or home vacuum to attempt water removal on from the property without cleanup experts onsite.
  10. Do not turn on the heating, air conditioning, or fans in an attempt to speed the drying and cleanup process. Air movement may spread contamination if the flooding is at all sewage-related.

Powerful extraction and air movement gear is then brought into the home by expert cleanup crews to remove any presence of freestanding water. Water is then thoroughly removed from upholstery, carpet, and carpet padding. Then the drying by air movement with professional fans begins.

If flooding is particularly bad, carpet and carpet padding may be moved temporarily to assist with drying.

Water in a home can be an extremely expensive emergency if there is extensive flood damage. Water damage can be even more costly if there is water in a business that carries a large inventory. In order to prevent flood damage and water damage, it is important to contact professional cleanup crews that can speed up the drying process with water cleanup and air movement as soon as possible. The sooner water cleanup is completed water damage restoration can begin.

Mold Myth Busting 101

6/16/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Mold Myth Busting 101 Call SERVPRO of East Cobb if you encounter mold damage in your home or business -(770) 424-0400-

Its name evokes images of green rot. Mold is a menacing pollutant existing naturally in the environment. But it's the last thing you want growing in your home.

Like most people, you probably know that indoor mold ruins homes and threatens health. And you might agree that the first step to eliminating mold is locating its sources.

But do you know where to look for mold? Or even that using a popular disinfectant to clean it can do more harm than good? Chances are, you've been duped by these mold myths that should be laid to rest:

  • A Clean Home is Mold-Free.

A dirt-free home is no guarantee against mold infestation. Mold thrives in closets, dark corners, and drywall, a common construction material in homes today. Its microscopic spores sail through the air, so you can't see them or know where they land.

  • Your home has no moldy odors.

It's true that gasses produced by mold give off a musty odor. But it's false to assume that having no odor means your home isn't infested. Not all molds produce smells. And if mold is lurking in a basement, its smell doesn't enter the air you normally breathe. It's there, and you never knew it.

  • Your home's basement never floods.

Wet basements are a major source of mold. But they're just one of many in your home. Other mainsprings for mold are humidifiers, leaky pipes, dryers that vent indoors, bathrooms and cooking areas that aren't ventilated, even carpets in a basement.

  • Bleach can remove mold.

A powerful disinfectant, bleach wipes away mold on glass, metal, or plastic surfaces. But while its chlorine component doesn't penetrate to the sources of mold in drywall and wood, the water contained in bleach does. And--you guessed it--that water lingers beneath the surfaces, providing more than enough food for mold to grow.

If you have more questions about mold damage or have mold damage, please don’t hesitate to call SERVPRO of East Cobb today - (770) 424-0400!

Understanding Water Types

6/16/2017 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Understanding Water Types SERVPRO of East Cobb "Like it never even happened." (770) 424-0400

When your home or business suffers a water damage, understanding what type of water you are dealing with is critical to ensuring proper cleanup.

There are three types of water. Clean water is water from a broken pipe, or other water source; rainwater is also considered clean. The term gray water is used to classify slightly contaminated water. Clean water becomes gray water when it is left untreated allowing bacteria and other contaminants to begin growing, making the water hazardous. Black water is highly contaminated and filled with fungi, bacteria, chemicals and more. Black water is typically caused by sewage damage, flooding or any type of natural disaster. Black water should always be handled by trained professionals.

Consider taking the following precautions to help minimize damage or prevent further damage while waiting for help to arrive.

Damage from Clean Water

    • Shut off the wate source if possible or contact a qualified professional to do so.
    • Turn off circuit breakers for wet areas of the building if access to the power distribuion panel is safe from potential electrical shock. Do not enter rooms with standing water, as electrical shock hazards may exist.
    • Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting. Wipe excess water from wood furniture after removing lamps and tabletop items.
    • Remove and prop up wet upholstery cushions to allow more even drying.
    • Move any paintings, art objects, computers, documents and other valuable items that may be sensitive to moisture to a safe place.
    • Do not leave books, newspapers, magazines or other colored items on wet carpet or floors as they may cause staining.
    • Do not use your household vacuum cleaner to remove water as there is potential for electrical shock or causing damage to the vacuum cleaner.
    • Do not turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet; do not enter rooms where ceilings are sagging from retained water.

Damage from Contaminated Water

    • Avoid all contact with sewage and items contaminated by sewage. Wash your hands thoroughly if you come in contact with contaminated items.
    • Do not walk through contaminated areas, as you could spread damage to unaffected areas.
    • Do not turn on the HVAC system if there is a possibility of spreading contaminated air.
    • Do not use household fans to dry the structure;air flow could spread contaminants.
    • Discard any food and/or products for personal hygiene and cleanliness if exposed to the contaminated areas.

The Mold Mitigation & Remediation Process

6/12/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation The Mold Mitigation & Remediation Process Call SERVPRO of East Cobb for mold remediation! (770) 424-0400

When there’s a water intrusion, like a roof leak or leaking water line, mold can quickly become a problem in your home or business. Mold can affect your health and can also cause significant damage to your property. Fortunately, SERVPRO of East Cobb professionals have the training, protective gear, and specialized equipment necessary to handle your mold problem. Although every mold damage scenario is different, requiring a unique solution, the general mold remediation process stays the same. The following steps illustrate a “typical” mold removal process.

The mold cleanup and restoration process begins when you call SERVPRO of East Cobb. A representative will ask a series of questions to help determine the necessary equipment, resources, and personnel needed.

  • Inspection & Damage Assessment

Your property will be carefully inspected for signs of mold using technology designed to detect mold and hidden water sources. Mold feeds on cellulose and water which can be hidden from plain view.

  • Mold Containment

Various containment procedures will be placed to prevent the spread of mold and isolate the contaminated area with physical barriers and negative air pressure to keep the mold spores from spreading during the cleanup process.

  • Air Filtration

Specialized filtration equipment captures microscopic mold spores out of the air. SERVPRO® technicians utilize powerful air scrubbers and HEPA vacuums to prevent the spread of these mold spores while the mold remediation is in progress.

  • Removing Mold & Mold-Infested Materials

The mold remediation process depends on the amount of mold growth and the types of surfaces on which the mold appears. Antifungal and antimicrobial treatments will be used to eliminate mold colonies and help prevent new colonies from forming. Removing and disposing of mold-infested porous materials, like drywall and flooring, may be necessary to remediate heavy mold growth.

  • Cleaning Contents & Belongings

SERVPRO of East Cobb professionals clean your furniture, decorative items, curtains, and other restorable items affected by mold. They use a variety of cleaning techniques to clean and sanitize your belongings. They are also trained to remove odors and deodorize using fogging equipment.

  • Restoration

Depending on the level of mold damage, drywall, subfloors, and other building materials may be removed. Restoration may involve minor repairs, such as replacing drywall, painting, and installing new carpet, or it may entail major repairs such as the reconstruction of various areas or rooms in a home or business.

SERVPRO of East Cobb professionals understand mold and mold growth and have the training and equipment to remediate mold in your home or business.

Do You Have Dirty Ducts?

5/25/2017 (Permalink)

Commercial Do You Have Dirty Ducts? Improve your indoor air quality with duct cleaning!

Did you know your ventilation system is often the biggest culprit in poor indoor air quality? In most cases, the HVAC system has been operating for some time without much attention. Dirty ducts can circulate odors, contaminants such as mold, and irritating dust throughout your building or home. A routine part of SERVPRO of East Cobb’s service is inspecting the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning unit (HVAC). Keeping the HVAC and ductwork clean can potentially extend the life-span of the equipment by allowing it to operate at peak condition, which may help save you money. Duct cleaning may not always be necessary.

In some circumstances, such as after a fire, smoke, or suspected mold growth, duct cleaning becomes an essential part of the cleanup process. In these cases, SERVPRO of East Cobb can often restore the HVAC system and ductwork to pre-damage condition.

If you have a fuel-burning furnace, stove, or fireplace, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends they be inspected for proper functioning and be serviced before each heating season to protect against carbon monoxide poisoning.

The SERVPRO® Duct Cleaning System is proven and cost-efficient. Unlike the majority of duct cleaning services, SERVPRO of East Cobb uses a portable ventilation and air duct cleaning system to examine ductwork and make a clean sweep, removing years of dust and grime.

  • The process begins by using patented equipment, including a roto-scraper, which automatically adapts to the duct’s shape and diameter while traveling through the duct, removing debris and filth before vacuuming begins.
  • Next, a powerful push-pull air delivery and collection system transfers the debris from the ducting to a 16-gallon container.

Does Your House Have A Mold Issue?

Mold Remediation Does Your House Have A Mold Issue? SERVPRO of East Cobb's highly trained mold remediation technician.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

    • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.

    • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.

    • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.

    • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.

    • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.

    • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Cold weather can have a huge impact on your home or business if you are not properly prepared. Whether it is heavy rain, freezing temperatures, damaging winds, sleet or snow, all can cause serious and costly property damage. While you cannot control the weather, you can take steps to prepare and help take the sting out of winter weather.

  • Inspect all handrails, stairwells and entryways to address and correct potential slippery of hazardous areas. Install mats or non-slip surfaces and post caution signs where water could be present.
  • Protect water pipes from freezing by simply allowing water to drip when temperatures dip below freezing. If pipes are under a cabinet, leave the cabinet doors open allowing warm inside air to circulate around the pipes. If the building has outdoor faucets, concider shutting water off at the main valve in the basement or crawl space. Quick Workspace Tips:

  • Divide Your Workspace Into Zones: Determine how you want and need to use the space and set up zones for your daily functions. You may require a workspace for your computer, a library area for our research, a storage area for supplies and a filing area for your archives. This will provide a foundation for a more efficient use of space.
  • Keep Only What You Need At Arm's Length: Boxes of pens, stacks of papers and old coffee cups need to go. Rid your desk of visual clutter by paring down the items on top to the essentials only. Supplies, paperwork and personal items should be kept in the zones you've established for them.
  • Sort Your Catch-All Drawer: Use drawer dividers to give everything a place, like compartments for paperclips and rubber bands. Go through the draw every six weeks and clear out anything that is out of place or isn't being used.
  • Eliminate Digital Clutter: Digital clutter can be just as stressful as physical clutter. Organize digital files and your e-mail inbox just as you would paper files-with a system of logical and clearly labeled folders. Also, keep the icons on your desktop to a bare minimum, and trade in sticky notes on your monitor for calendar reminders.

It Doesn't Cost a lot to be Prepared

Storm Damage It Doesn't Cost a lot to be Prepared Your preparedness kit should last you at least three days.

It is no secret that many families and individuals are looking to cut back on spending. But with the frequency of disasters, both natural and man-made, can you afford no to be prepared? Preparedness doesn't have to cost an arm ad a leg. Here are a few tips:

  • Make a Plan. Work with your family and neighbors to make an emergency plan for the types of disasters that affect your area. Make sure everyone in your family understands where to go and what to do in case of an emergency. You can download Family Emergency Plan templates www.ready.gov/make-a-plan
  • Update Contact Information. Having accurate records for family, friends and neighbors will help you stay in contact and possibly help those in need. Make sure updated contact information is posted in visible places throughout your house and workplace.

*The best tip: Start now. Take small steps toward preparedness and before you know it, you will be ready.

Do you have a plan?

Storm Damage Do you have a plan? Storm Team ready to tackle a job.

How quickly your company can get back to business after a tornado, hurricane, or flood often depends on the emergency planning done today. The regular occurrence of natural disasters demonstrates the importance of being prepared for any emergency. While each situation is unique, your organization can be better prepared if you plan carefully, put emergency procedures in place, and practice for all kinds of emergencies. The following are basic measures business owners and managers can take to begin preparing. A commitment to being planning today will help support your employees, customers, the community, local economy, and even the country. It also protects your business investment and gives your company a better chance for survival.

  • Develop a Business Continuity Plan - Your organization's risk needs will vary depending on the specific industry, size, scope and location. Begin by reviewing your business process flow chart, if one exists, to identify operations critical to survival and recovery. Carefully assess your internal and external functions to determine which staff, materials, procedures and equipment are absolutely necessary to keep the business operating. You should also establish procedures for succession of management.
  • Review Insurance Coverage - Inadequate insurance coverage can lead to major financial loss if your business is damaged, destroyed or simply interrupted for a period of time. Insurance policies vary; check with your agent or provider about things such as physical losses, flood coverage and business interruption. Understand what your policy does and does not cover
  • Prepare Your Emergency Plan - Your employees and co-workers are your business' most valuable asset. Communication is central before, during and after a disaster. Include emergency information is newsletters, on your company intranet, in periodic employee e-mails and/or other communication tools.
  • Practice the Emergency Plan - Some disasters will require employees to leave the workplace quickly. The ability to evacuate workers, customers and visitors effectively can save lives. If you business operates out of more than one location, establish evacuation procedures for each individual building. If your company is in a high-rise building, an industrial park, or even a small strip mall, it is important to coordinate and practice with other tenants or businesses to avoid confusion and potential gridlock.
  • Secure Your Facility and Equipment - Install fire extinguishers, smoke alarms and detectors in appropriate places. Secure all entry and exit points and plan for mail safety. Plan what you will do if your building, plant or store is not usable. Secure valuable equipment.
  • Improve Cyber Security - Protecting your data and information systems may require specialized expertise, but even the smallest business can be better prepared. Use anti-virus software and keep it up-to-date. Don't open e-mails from unknown sources. Use hard-to-guess passwords. Protect your computer from intruders by using firewalls. Back up your computer data and download security protection updates known as patches regularly.

FEMA Emergency Supply List

10/17/2016 (Permalink)

Through its "Ready Campaign", the Federal Emergency Management Agency educates and empowers Americans to take some simple steps to prepare for and respond to potential emergencies/natural disasters. The "Ready Campaign" asks individuals to do three key things: get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, and be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses.

All Americans should have some basic supplies on hand in order to survive for at least three days if an emergency occurs. Following is a listing of some basic items that every emergency supply kit should include. However, it is important that individuals review this list and consider where they live and the unique needs of their family in order to create an emergency supply kit that will meet these needs. Fire Damage Can you do it in under 2 minutes? Fire Safety

Every second counts during a fire. Fire experts agree, people have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home before it's too late to get out. In a matter of moments, a small flame can become a major fire, making it critical to be prepared and have an escape plan in place. A survey conducted by the American Red Cross shows only 26 percent of families have developed and practiced a home fire escape plan. Once a plan is developed, it is critical everyone in the home understands the plan; the best way to do this is by practicing the escape plan at least twice a year. Increase your chance of surviving a fire by ensuring you have working smoke detectors in place, building an escape plan, and then practicing the escape plan. The following are a few suggestions to help you develop an emergency escape plan.

  1. Draw a map of each level of your home and show all doors and windows. find to ways to get out of each room. Make sure all doors and windows that lead outside open easily.

  3. Choose an outside meeting place a safe distance in front of your home where everyone can meet after they've escaped. Make sure to make the location of the meeting place on your escape plan.
  4. Teach children how to escape o their own in case you cannot help them. Pla for everyone in your home with special considerations for elderly or disabled individuals.
  5. Practice your fire escape plan during the day and at nighttime.

Helpful Tips to Keep Your Home and Family Safe from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

9/19/2016 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Helpful Tips to Keep Your Home and Family Safe from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Be sure to check your carbon monoxide detectors when you check your fire detectors.

Carbon monoxide is often call “The Invisible Killer”. It is an odorless, colorless gas created when fuels (including: wood, natural gas, gasoline, propane, methane, and oil) burn inefficiently. Carbon monoxide is particularly dangerous because it can be a bi-product of using many household heating or cooking devices. It can be ingested into your body by simply breathing. Carbon monoxide poisoning is often times confused with flu symptoms, food poisoning and other illnesses. Some symptoms include: nausea; shortness of breath; dizziness; light headedness; headaches (any combination of these symptoms). High levels of carbon monoxide can be fatal.

  • Carbon monoxide detectors should be installed in a central location outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home and in other locations where required by applicable laws, codes or standards.
  • For the best protection, interconnect all carbon monoxide detectors throughout the home. When one sounds, they all sound.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for placement and mounting height.
  • Choose a carbon monoxide detector that has the label of a recognized testing laboratory.
  • Call your local fire department’s non-emergency number to find out what number to call if the carbon monoxide detector sounds.
  • Test carbon monoxide detector at least once a month; replace them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • If the audible trouble signal sounds, check for low batteries. If the battery is low, replace it. If it still sounds, call the fire department.
  • If the carbon monoxide detector sounds, immediately move to a fresh air location outdoors or by an open window or door. Make sure everyone inside the home is accounted for. Call for help from a fresh air location and stay there until emergency personnel.

SERVPRO of East Cobb Smoke and Soot Cleanup

8/16/2016 (Permalink)

Fire Damage SERVPRO of East Cobb Smoke and Soot Cleanup Smoke and Soot Damage Can Cause a Pervasive Odor in Your East Cobb Home.

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of East Cobb will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.
