Home in Sandy Plains Sustains Water Damage in Kitchen

This multi-level home in Sandy Plains had a slow leak under the kitchen sink which eventually gave way and burst. Allowing the water to travel throughout the kitchen and into the crawlspace below. The house was built in the early 1980’s and has played home to a family of three for many years. The family was out of town enjoying a family vacation, visiting with relatives, when the kitchen sink supply line broke.

This is a common scenario to those of us in the home restoration field, but not to worry, this home owner call the professionals at SERVPRO of East Cobb (770) 424-0400.

From the first moment SERVPRO of East Cobb  received this customers phone call, notifying us of the loss, we sprung to action.

Once on site, our technicians established good lines of communication with our customer and gave them a general overview of how our restoration company is going to make it “like it never even happened”. Technicians started documenting the water damage by taking both pictures of the affected area and by utilizing moisture mapping technology. Simultaneously they began formulating a drying plan for the structure.

The IICRC recognizes three different categories of water damage (CAT 1, CAT 2, & CAT 3). In this case, because the water traveled through building materials, the water loss was classified as “CAT 2” (formerly known as “gray water”). This category of water contains high levels of contaminates and could be hazardous.

The first step was to extract standing water and safely remove water from porous surfaces (carpet, furniture, hardwood flooring). Once all water extraction process was completed the technicians began the demolition stage. Removing the tile counter tops, cabinetry, and pressed wood subfloor in the kitchen area and removing insulation from the crawlspace.

After demo was finished and debris removed, dehumidifying and air moving equipment were strategically place throughout the kitchen to dry out the exposed subfloor. Antimicrobial agents were used to clean the entire effected area to remove any mold growth that many have started to develop and prevent future growth.

After only four short days this home owner’s property was dried out and ready for our construction team to step in and take the restoration service to the next level by making it “like it never even happened”.
